VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Clubhouse is in need of decoration and it is proposed to do as much as possible on a self help basis.  Volunteers are welcomed.  In particular I would like to hear from any interior designers with an eye for colour as I believe judicious use of suitable colours would significantly brighten up the various Clubhouse areas and much improve the ambience.  Estimates are being procured to restore the facia above the Pro’s Shop and to refurbish the Men’s Locker Room showers.

PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS

We seek to introduce a dividing partition between the restaurant area and the main body of the Clubhouse that can be closed to provide privacy for events such as match meals, small functions and parties as well as providing the opportunity for corporate hosting during the week when the Clubhouse is not busy.  Estimates are currently being obtained.

I would like to improve the smoking area arrangements and a decked area between the Secretary’s Office and the course side Foyer Door is being considered.  This would meet legal requirements, be more sheltered from the elements and more discrete than the current location.  Whilst no area is perfect I believe this offers a better solution than the current arrangements and I would welcome your views.

ENTERTAINMENTS

A programme of autumn entertainments has been arranged as follows:

Friday 19th September – Quiz Night with Fish & Chip supper. Click here for details.

Saturday 4th October - New Members Event. The first tee has been reserved 2pm to 3pm for a 10 hole texas scramble. This is followed by a finger buffett served at 5.30pm approx.

Friday 11th October – a Murder Mystery evening with supper (theme to be confirmed).

Saturday 22nd November – Theme Night with supper.

Friday 19th December – Members Christmas Party with food and entertainment.

Wednesday 31st December – a New Year’s Eve Party with food and entertainment.

Additionally, our new caterers will be developing themed food evenings and are seeking to make the Clubhouse your first choice meal venue!.

Your support is needed to make these functions a success. Posters and booking sheets will be displayed in the Clubhouse – however, please reserve these dates in your diary now!

BRIDGE EVENINGS

Are there any club members interested in playing Bridge? If there is enough interest Neil Ackerley will organise rubber and duplicate bridge on Monday evenings in the clubhouse throughout the autumn and winter. Depending on the level of interest this may be cut-in rubber bridge one evening and duplicate on another evening. Initially this would probably be two evenings each month.

Please let Neil know if you are interested by e-mail to neil.ackerley@bcs.org.uk , by phone on 01455 554522 or by a note in his pigeon-hole.

FUN GOLF

If you didn’t play on Friday 22nd August, you missed some fun.

Five teams, with FIVE players each, and swishing grass skirts (yes even some of the men) had a brilliant night. The winning team came in with an obscene 91 points! Don’t miss out again and look out for future events.

DRESS CODE

The revised dress code has been in place for a few months and I would welcome your feedback. I would appreciate your views on one particular area and that is junior requirements for the under 12s. At present no one is permitted to wear ‘trainers’ – which for many of our really young juniors is particularly difficult as generally the alternative is school shoes. Relaxing this requirement would be a practical way forward and one which I consider would not detract from the standards we seek to achieve. I look forward to hearing from you.

With Regards
