Newsletter - Ladies Section - September 2008

Hello Ladies

Well, I can’t believe how quickly the season is flying by.  It seems only yesterday we had a long list of matches to be played & now most of them are over!
We did very well in the handicap matches & only lost one match which was away at The Leicestershire.  We have done well in our scratch matches and I am delighted to report that we have won them all, which means next season we will be promoted to the next division.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the ladies who have put their names down to play.  I have appreciated your support especially having to play so many matches in bad weather.  Let’s hope next year is less soggy.
There are still 4 more friendly matches to play which are open to everyone, so if you have not played for us yet this season, do put your name down.

We played our last match in our new team polo shirts & looked very smart indeed.  There were many compliments which inspired the team to win handsomely.  There are still shirts & sweatshirts awaiting collection from the Pro shop so please see Lee as soon as you can.

We did not lose a scratch match this year and will hopefully be promoted to the next division. Well done to all who played this season.

Congratulations must go to Maggie Deere who was selected to play for the County. We are very proud of her & look forward to a re-run next year.

My Lady Captain’s Day went very well with the weather being a little too hot, a very rare event for this summer. I would like to thank all the ladies again for their kind gifts & cards, they made my day a very happy & memorable one.
Maggie won the cup, reinforcing why she has had her handicap savaged to 7. – Kathy, she’s catching you up!
The trophy for most improved player was a closely fought contest between Jane Lewis & Kate Frankham our junior, but Kate just nipped in to take it as she had managed to cut her handicap this year by 11 shots & has since come down again! Congratulations Kate.

My Lady Captains Away Day was to Leamington & County Golf Club which again managed to coincide with a dry sunny day, even so the course proved to be very long & difficult - the post match food however made up for it.
Jean Neesham & Deanna Packham won the silver & bronze prizes respectively. Sue Fletcher won the mystery prize of an umbrella, this was presented to her for buying an all singing, all dancing electric golf trolley which can’t be used in the rain!!!  Let’s hope global warming dries up all the rain for you soon Sue.

Lady President’s Day was another great event which was well supported by everyone.  Dorothy surpassed herself baking lots of delicious cakes for the Half Way House.  It was great to see Irene & Betty manning the cakes.  They both looked very well & I am sure it will not be long before we see them both back on the course.

I wish to finish by issuing an early reminder for the Ladies AGM which is on Tuesday 4th November at 7.00pm.  We need more ladies to attend, especially Saturday ladies, as we have many important issues to discuss this year & need your input.  Notices will be in the locker room before the AGM to let you know the topics up for discussion & if you wish to raise a topic please do so in writing before the day itself. Please read the notices & come along to have your say.

Best wishes

Jacqui
Ladies Captain

To all Lady members

There is documentation from EWGA concerning an EGM in October. This is on the Secretary’s notice board in our locker room. With it is a sheet for your comments and vote. Our club vote is wanted by our county representative who will represent us at the EGM. Could you all please make an effort to read and vote before 23rd September when we have our next committee meeting. We will then collate all the votes and comments to pass on to the county meeting, where they will gather all our division’s votes.

Many thanks

Sue Fletcher
