People are complaining about the wet summer. Not Lutterworth Seniors. We have hardly got rained on once: 29 matches played and nothing more than an occasional shower to dampen our ardour. The same was true during the winter season. Wednesday after Wednesday dawned clear and bright. True the course was closed once after a torrential Tuesday (we did feel sorry for the Ladies); but even then some of us went to play on another course that was open and we had a fine day out with some excellent competitive golf.
The motto is that while the rain may fall on the just as on the unjust, it does not fall on Lutterworth Seniors.
At the end of July we had a splendid Away Day at Maxstoke Park: an excellent club- course. Some scenic holes, good greens, not too long for those of us of advancing years, and not too hilly. Good company – 32 of us – and a pretty good meal. The Away Day Pot was won by Brian Asbury.
During July and August we have been playing two matches a week – so with the availability sheets depleted by holidays some of us have been having a lot of golf. It is always good to play other courses, but it is also good to welcome visitors to Lutterworth. Without exception people are complimentary about our golf-course and indeed about the welcome we give. We have a golf club that in its way is the equal of any in the locality.
It was also good to welcome people from so many local clubs to our 4BBB Seniors Open on Monday, 18 August. The winners were a pair from Whetstone (they have a very strong Seniors Section there), Noel Hall and Terry Moore with a net 66. They beat our own Alan Mobberley and George Thompson on count-back. Disappointed were Jim Baillie and Maurice Dougherty who spent many hours thinking that they were clubhouse leaders with a 65. Alas for them, our vigilant Competitions Secretary spotted an arithmetical error! Good try, Jim and Maurice! Some of us are looking forward to an Away Weekend at Beadlow Manor at the end of August. Then we have five final matches in September – and our winter season begins on Wednesday, 8 October.

The Seniors are always glad to welcome new members.
