Senior Moments

Senior Moments Newsletter - October2008

The Seniors' Section held it's end-of-season competition and dinner on October 1st.

It was a very enjoyable day with the sun shining on us as usual.

We have had a very busy year, with thirty-eight home and away matches played throughout the summer and also the Winter Swindle competition, played on most Wednesdays throughout last winter.

Thirty-nine members competed in the end-of-season Stableford.  Forty-four attended the dinner, including our guest, the Club Captain, Rob Clarke.  The event was very well organised by the Seniors Secretary, John Watts, with the excellent four-course dinner provided by our new caterers, Charisma.

Dennis Green won a hamper for producing the best Stableford score of the day.

Other presentations included:

The Tom Hartopp Plate, won by Sid Ash, for the best gross Eclectic score running over the Winter Swindle Stableford cards.

The Freddie Sutton Memorial Plate, won by Jim Moss, for the best net Eclectic.

The retiring Seniors Captain, Neil Wright, was presented with garden vouchers and an etched tankard in appreciation of a job well done. It has to be mentioned that a few of Neil’s after match dinner jokes were some of the most notable we have heard in years. Thank you Neil for an excellent year.

Our 2008/9 winter season kicked off on Wednesday 8th October with the first of our weekly Winter Swindle Stableford competitions which will run through to next March.

We have a very busy program of events organised for 2009, which again will include thirty-eight matches at home and away and two Seniors open competitions.

In addition, there is the Seniors Captain’s Away Day and Summer Away Break, as well as several social functions.

To help fulfil our busy schedule we need more new members.  If you are sixty or more we would like you to join us - please come along to the clubhouse on any Wednesday before 9.45am, when cards are drawn ready for a 10am start.
