Score CardsWatch out for the New Score Cards. With the recent remeasurement of the course, meaning some small adjustments to the yardages, it is an appropriate time to introduce the new combined club scorecard. The new scorecards will be available in the spring and will be used for all mens, ladies and mixed competitions. The Club has had wonderful support from Corporate sponsors for the new scorecards and we wish to thank:- SR Direct Litho, Arden Direct Marketing, Brittany Ferries and Lee Sports. |
From the officeYour Club diaries are now available for collection from the Secretary's office during normal office hours. Click here to see details (and mugshots) of this year's committee. Do remember that if you know members who are not receiving the Magpie Newsletter please ensure they send me their email address and I will ensure they are included in future. Jane. |

Click here for all the news on the latest golfing equipment plus the Christmas draw results........ |
Mind MattersClick here for another fascinating tip from our Golf Coach Geoff Yates. Just what we need at this time of year. You will also want to note in your diary Thursday April 2nd when Geoff will present:- "How to Save 5 Shots a Round without Changing Your Swing" This has got to be good value, and washed down with wine, tea or coffee. Please put your name down in the Pro Shop so we can conclude the price and details based on your response. |
Handicaps and CompetitionsAll handicaps (ladies and gents) will automatically be reviewed before the end of February and any changes published by 1st March 2009. However, if you would care to provide additional information regarding your handicap for consideration please forward these details to Jerry Casper by Friday, 13th February 2009. Please note that the Foundation Cup Competition - 4BBB Stableford - Ladies and Gents - to raise funds for the Juniors Section will be held on Saturday, 30th May 2009. Please put this in your diary. |
Festival WeekWe are pleased to announce the introduction of a festival week, where competitions will take place on each week day commencing on Monday 24th August. The intention is to encourage members to invite guests to play the course and enjoy the facilities. Click here to see details of the competitions. |
Bar and HouseFor a complete list of social events throughout the next year click here From Jazz nights to Casino evening - please look to support your club and have a good night into the bargain. We have welcomed Mark Merrill, Lesley Wooldridge and Jean Neesham to the Bar & House Committee. Functions continue to be well supported with 94 at the members Christmas party and 122 on New Year's Eve; at the time of writing approaching 90 have signed up for Burns Night. At this rate we are heading for waiting lists (hint – get your names down early!). The food continues to be excellent – in this respect Charisma are very keen to receive your comments and particularly if something is 'not quite right' or you have any suggestions for improvement. We intend to add in the odd quiz night to supplement the regular games evenings (every other Friday) as well as fun golf events and themed food evenings. Please let me have any ideas or requests for a particular themed function. I hope you have noticed that following the 'self-help' decorating evening, the Clubhouse is looking a lot brighter. Here, thanks go to the volunteers from members and Charisma staff – attached are a few pictures of the painters in action!

There are a few more jobs to do to finish off the painting and I shall be calling for more volunteers! We will shortly have some new curtains in the Restaurant area and I should like to record a vote of thanks to the Ladies Section for providing these and the 3 striking poppy pictures now adorning the Restaurant walls. The other major change will be the installation of a partition between the Restaurant area and the main bar area, which will be located below the beam adjacent to the Trophy Cabinet; this will be completed in mid-February and enable team matches and societies to dine in privacy as well as providing a meeting area for business lunches and parties when the Restaurant is not required for Club functions. Do not forget that you are able to use the Clubhouse to host your special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. There is no charge to members for hire of the Clubhouse but we do charge £10 for use of the dance floor and £10 for a licence extension if either of these is required. |

JuniorsJunior Report We welcome Damien Slater as our new junior captain. Many thanks to our outgoing captain - Sam Skerratt for an excellent year. Junior coaching has been well supported and has continued throughout the winter; in December this was combined with a quiz and games evening, which everyone enjoyed. My thanks to the professional staff and the band of volunteers for their continued support. Whilst we have continued to attract new members we still have vacancies for more and I would ask you to encourage your children/grandchildren and friends to consider enrolling. Mixed MatchesMIXED MATCHES -- YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU
The Winter is nearly over and we can start to look forward to the Spring and Summer of Mixed Golf and to this end I have arranged the matches for this year.
I need to know fairly soon the number of people who would be interested in playing in the mixed matches duing the year. I have put an availability list on the "Mixed Board" which is situated in the foyer adjacent to the mens changing room. Can you please put your telephone number as well as your name.
Even if your partner does not play golf or you are on your own we need a mix of male and female.
Most of our matches are played on a Sunday afternoon when the courses are usually nice and quiet. To remind you, anyone who plays is expected to stay for the meal after the matches.
Our first match is a get together at home on Sunday 15th March at 12 noon and the sheet is already up.
If you have any questions please ring me or Brian on 01788 860482 or email lesleyw46@ tiscali.co.uk
Look forward to seeing you all at the early season get together.
Lesley Wooldridge
Ladies Vice Captain.
